Don’t even try to L-cancel your way out of this one! Grab your main and get ready for an episode destined for this podcast since the show’s inception. Today we’re talking about the iconic Gamecube mainstay, Super Smash Bros. Melee. We’re joined by YouTuber, podcaster, and improviser Albert Andrade for a joyful chat that you don’t want to miss. Even if our host was congested as all hell.
After hearing about what he’s been up to and his history with video games, Albert dives into getting consumed by Melee while staying at a two friends’ house for entire weekend, he discusses how Project Slippi has kept the Melee scene going during the never ending pandemic, and tells us about a Smash Bros. related love story that simply must be heard.

Do you like Odyssey’s AND Adventures? Well pal, you’re in luck because this game’s title features both of those words! Wowee! We’re joined by Iowa escapee, LA comedian, and editing legend Erin Smith to discuss the PC game Little Big Adventure 2 / Twinsen’s Odyssey.
Conner and his fellow Mach improviser Erin talk about how her dad just came home with the game one day and her entire family gave it a chance, how she’s revisited it several times in her life including one time playing it at a work space she was paying for, and how she loved it so much that she would roleplay as Twinsen as a kid on the playground.

FUTBOLLLLLLLLLLLL! Finally, we get a traditional sports game episode that isn’t something our host forces on the show. This is all thanks to one of the best improvisers in LA and offensive coordinator of our hearts, Leonard Smith Jr. He joins the show to talk to Conner about FIFA 06: Road to the World Cup.
On this episode Leonard tells us of how this game kicked off a relationship for him with the FIFA franchise, how he and his roommate now both hop around teams but have different approaches to controlling said teams, and how he never played the World Cup mode but was able to develop a love for this game by playing with his roommate at the time. Sorry about the technical issues in this episode. Thankfully because we had Leonard guest it still turned out great. Stay safe out there everyone.

I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is that this is an absolutely fantastic episode. The bad is that it is the final in the Baseball Spotlight series for 2020. We are wrapping up the series in the most appropriate way possible, and that is by covering Backyard Baseball 2001 for Windows and Mac.
Joined by newcomer and golden son of Detroit Alex Bernard, Conner and previous guest / childhood best friend Eddie Martin discuss the phenomenon that was the 2nd installment in the Backyard Baseball series. On this episode our ballplayers discuss the eclectic cast of character both pro and backyard that populate the game, how cool it was to be able to play with our favorite pro players as kids, and how this game took each of our love for the game to new heights. Don’t worry, we shout the legendary announcement team that is Sunny Day and Vinnie the Gooch.

Before AMC’s the Walking Dead took the world by storm and made zombies hip as heck there was a video game that blazed the trail first and that is Dead Rising (2007) for the Xbox 360. Patric Ehlers, Mario lover and 1 of 2 great hosts of the fantastic podcast Nintendo Cartridge Society, joins us to talk about how he came to love that game for the first time.
Patrick tells Conner about being an RD at Lawrence College in Wisconsin and how that led to hanging out and playing games with many students at his dorm. He dives into the story of a friend ended up hooking up their Xbox 360 in his room to play this game and how that lead to it becoming a communal activity for Patrick and anyone who would drop by the room. He also discusses how this was a great, early open world game that allowed the player to lose themselves in Frank West.

This scary month is so dang fun I never want it to end! Call Me By Your Game’s October themed episodes continue today with an episode featuring a pair that can only be topped by Coke Zero and Evan Williams and that is streaming buddies Roxy Polk and Michael McCollor. These two Resident Evil stans join Conner to discuss the most recent game in the franchise, RE3 Remake.
We begin our discussion by accidentally engaging in some well-meaning Minnesota Twins smack talk. First time guest Roxy signs the praises of the dodge mechanic and it’s advantages in the game. McCollor talks about the poor moments in the franchise sticking out more because of the quality that Capcom normally puts out with the an entry from the Resident Evil Franchise. Our two guests also throw out some dream improvements to the series moving forward and talk about how as a game RE3 Remake is a horror rollercoaster.

Get your fricken costumes, baseball bats, and candy ready because it’s October, baby! This month we’re celebrating all things October. That’s right, Halloween is sitting shotgun as our episodes will feature scary zombies, funny zombies, baseball, and the X-Men. They’re still a popular choice for Halloween costumes… right? October is about more than just Halloween. So that’s why we’re mixing it up. That… or we belatedly decided it was a good opportunity to do some themed stuff…
On the first October season episode of Call Me By Your Game we welcome retired improviser, future boy band leader, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine writer Jeff Topolski to the show to discuss X-Men on the Sega Genesis. Jeff and Conner sing their praises for the Hollywood pipeline that is Fort Collins Colorado and reminisce on some great UCB sketch comedy memories. Jeff also discusses being a new member of the Nintendo Switch family, talks about thinking he had beaten X-Men when he really only finished the 3rd level, and remembers how this game was a great arm in the X-Men franchise during the early 90’s.

Welcome to the preview of Call Me By Your Game Co-op Episode 3 featuring Final Fantasy X. Co-op episodes are monthly patreon exclusive episodes from Super NPC Radio, our little video game podcast network. They’re a part of the $10 DJ Toad Tier but we will bring a preview of each episode to the traditional feed. They’re more of a deep dive look from a group on a particular game focusing mostly on what we love and what works best for the game. Enjoy!
Back in 2001 the world was introduced to Zanarkand. Now, twenty years later, Conner McCabe (4D Printer, UCB, Dave and Bruce) Jake Sprague (Unsolicited Advice, UCB PONY), Oscar Montoya (Spanish Aqui Presents, Bless The Heart), and Kristin Thorson (Twitch, Jeff and Them) do a deep dive discussion on what made Final Fantasy X so special. On episode 3 of Call Me By Your Game Co-op, Conner is joined by 2 returning champions and newcomer / FFX scholar Kristin Thorson. They discuss not only how they all experienced FFX for the first time and how it differed from previous Final Fantasy games. They dive into the fun of filling out the sphere grid, exploration of themes such as institutionalized religion and what comes with it, gush about how fresh and fantastic the battle system is, and so much more. Tidus and the gang would be proud of this episode’s guardians for making this such a great hang

Get your nanners peeled because we’re finally following up the first episode of this podcast with one of the greatest sequels of all time, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest. On this episode of Call Me By Your Game Conner is joined by Mariologist, Comic strip auteur, fashion icon, and Mr. Boop himself, Alec Robbins.
Conner and Alec have a ball discussing the state of Nintendo just a week before the announcement of Super Mario 3D All-Stars. Alec also gives us a rundown of his Nintendo fandom and sticks up for both the criminally underrated Wii U and flawed but wonderful Super Mario Sunshine.
The two of them also discuss the trend of video games not focusing on what makes a game fun to play, how DKC2 is an example of two contrasting art styles that make each other pop, and how the developers of this game threw all of their best ideas at the proverbial board in order to make a fantastic and dynamic 2D platformer.

As we enter the final week of Major League Baseball’s regular season we find ourselves longing for another Baseball Spotlight. Well looks like we’re in luck because on today’s episode we get exactly that. Guest host Jeremy Schmidt sits down with Conner as he talks about the greatness, legacy, and lasting impact of the best baseball video game of all time, MVP Baseball 2005.
On this edition of Call Me By Your Game’s Baseball Spotlight Conner tells of the legend that is the MVP Baseball series and longs for a return. He speaks lovingly of the phenomenal controls and gameplay, the attention to detail given to both the physics engine and player detail, and tells of the time that So Taguchi saved him not once but twice against his greatest MVP challenge ever. Bonus: we finally get the Martin family tree reveal. How neat!
